Panda Surgical featured on ITV News at 10
London, UK — February 12, 2024 — Today our CEO Manios Dimitrakakis had the pleasure of presenting the Panda Surgical technology during ITV News at10 to highlight the importance of patient safety and surgeon approval when developing disruptive surgical robotic technologies.
‘What we’re building is a handheld device that is inexpensive and can allow surgeons to operate in confined spaces with delicate manoeuvres.’ said Manios when the Host, Martin Stew, asked him what is Panda Surgical doing differently.
With the next generation of surgical robots poised to disrupt healthcare systems worldwide, just how ready are the ethics surrounding robots and medical artificial intelligence? This is the question the ITV segment tried to answer. 81 researchers from 12 different countries have released the results of joining forces to agree on a safe criteria for increasingly autonomous robots, as their use in medical settings increases worldwide.
Our co-founder Mr. Hani Marcus, University College London Hospitals neurosurgeon, and one of the lead authors of this work, explained that it will provide a safety net, particularly with the emergence of AI and autonomous robots.
"All of a sudden, there's not just one robot but many robots in widespread use, so it's a good time to have a framework to evaluate them," he said.
The study was published in Nature Medicine and can be accessed here
